Commemorating 2000 Years of Salvation

April 1, 2026

In exactly seven years, 2033 will mark the 2000th anniversary of Christ's crucifixion - the Christian bimillennial. Let us prepare to commemorate this momentous occasion and celebrate 2000 years of salvation!

Key Bimillenial Dates

The Date of the Crucifixion

Summary: Jesus was crucified in AD 33 on Passover, which is 14 Nisan in the Hebrew calendar. The date of this Passover is equivalent to April 3 in the Julian calendar (used by the Roman Empire and the basis for our modern calendar). In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII improved the accuracy of the Julian calendar with a simple modification to the intercalation of leap years. It is this reformed calendar (Gregorian) that we still use today. During the first century AD, there is a two day difference between the two calendars; thus, April 3 (Julian) is equivalent to April 1 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar. All three of these dates - Hebrew, Julian, and Gregorian - correspond to the same day, which was a Friday.

Crucifixion - Friday (Passover - 14 Nisan)

Resurrection - Sunday (Day of Firstfruits - 16 Nisan)

Ascension/Pentecost - Sunday (Feast of Weeks - 6 Sivan)
